Nine days, Nine Nights, Nine Avatars

The term 'Navratri is derived from two words. 'Nava' meaning nine and 'matrix meaning night.
The whole term Navratri means 9 nights. This is because this festival is for 9 days and 9 nights. In these 9 days and 9 nights. 9 Avatar of maa Parvati Ji (the goddess of Shakti) worshipped every single day, with different forms of Maa Parvati Ji is worshipped.
Every Hindu generally knows this. But being a Hindu or a maa Durga worshipper do you know that why there are nine forms of Maa Parvati Ji? Actually maa Parvati Ji is the goddess of Shakti, and in the Hindu religion there are believed to be 9 centers of energy in our body, we have 9 holes in our body.

Victory over an evil

 

Celebration of this festival is believed to be the symbol of victory of god over evil. It is believed that once there was a demon named mahishasur.
with his very hard meditation, he successfully achieves a boon from Lord shiva. Because of this boon, it was likely impossible for any God to defeat mahishasur. When he crosses all his limits, then maa Parvati Ji fought with him because of the power that mahishasur got with the Lord shiva's boon Maa Parvati jihad to take 9 different forms (Avatar).
Maa Parvati Ji fought with the demon for the entire nine days and nine nights. Maa Parvati Ji finally defeated and killed mahishasur.

Hindi is nine days nine different forms of Maa Parvati Ji are worshipped.
during these days worshippers only take vegetarian food or simple food with no turmeric spices oil ginger garlic onion etc.

Kanya pujan (Navratri A festival of hindus)

On the very first day of Navratri, Kalash sthapana is done.
on the 9th day of Navratri 'Kanya puja is done in which small girls are worshipped as the nine Avtar of maa Parvati Ji.

On the 9th day, 'Havana' is done with which the festival of these nine days gets complicated.

Vijayadashmi

On this day, the dummy demon 'Ravana is burnt in the evening.
This is because it is believed that on this day 'Lord Rama' killed the demon Ravana on the 10th day is known as the Vijayadashami.
